Hi all, I haven't been on dA for ages, been over a year and I just wanted to update you if you're still following me! :)

I've been at university in England and I must admit, I haven't been keeping up with photography or literature since I got here. I've been meaning to write for a while now but just didn't seem to find the right words, things have been going on and my thoughts have been all over the place, but I'm happy to say that I finally got some stuff down, it was a relief to be able to write down my thoughts with such clarity after such a long time. I forgot how much I love writing and photography. I'm not going to make any promises for the future, in all honesty in a few months I'll be doing my 2nd year final exams and then I'll be off to London to work at an amazing, worldwide firm for a year to fulfil the requirements of my current degree! But I will do my best, I have another piece of work in progress so hopefully I'll have that up sometime soon as well!

Other than the job and university going quite well, I don't have much else to say, I've missed deviantArt and I hope I'll be seeing you guys around!

Amy, I...

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 18, 2011, 9:45 AM

Snow on the ground in Tennessee
North came South at the tops of the trees
Another long winter trying to fight this freeze
Waiting but the cold's got a hold on me
Hold on me
Hold on to me

Amy I
I never felt this kind of cold before
Amy I
I may never feel this way again
I never felt this kind of cold

So give me a cloud there's so much at stake
Decided to walk, there was ice on the lake
Though I never worry 'cause it never breaks
Though I hear it cracking under my weight
Another long winter trying to fight this freeze
Waiting but the cold's got a hold on me
Hold on to me
So hold on to me

''Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become...

Invictus

Journal Entry: Tue Jun 14, 2011, 1:06 PM

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Update

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 21, 2010, 2:49 AM

Hey everyone,

Damn, I miss photography, and I miss dA. Well, thankfully I'll be coming back with some new photos within the next two weeks!
I'm off to Austria, to ''Zell am See'' this thursday, to spend Christmas and New Years there with my family. I will be snowboarding and I will try and get back to photography while I'm there. I'll be back with some (hopefully) great shots in 2 weeks time! Take care people =)

Every once in a while, people step up. They rise above themselves. Sometimes they surprise you. And sometimes they fall short. Life is funny sometimes. It can push pretty hard. But if you look close enough, you find hope in the words of children, in the bars of a song and in the eyes of someone you love. And if you're lucky, I mean if you're the luckiest person on this entire planet, the person you love decides to love you back.

Does God exist?

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 17, 2010, 4:47 AM

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation.

They talked about so many things and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: 'I don't believe that God exists.'

'Why do you say that?' asked the customer.

'Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children?

If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain.

I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things.'

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument.

The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop.

Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barbershop again and he said to the barber:

'You know what? Barbers do not exist.'

'How can you say that?' asked the surprised barber. 'I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!'

'No!' the customer exclaimed. 'Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.'

'Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me.'

'Exactly!' affirmed the customer. 'That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look to Him for help. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world.

10,000 Pageviews

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 8, 2010, 12:44 PM

Hey guys - I just saw that I reached 10,000 pageviews - THANKS! I'm so glad to have been able to reach this number, I have been spammed with great comments as well as constructive criticism at times, I have been receiving lots of favourites and deviant watches. I have truly improved an incredible amount within the year that I have been a part of the dA community, and you guys have played a HUGE part in my growth. So once again, thanks for all the support. Keep commenting and watching me!

I just want to do a little self promo from here for a sec: If you haven't been following me much recently, I have been giving literature a go. I have two pieces so far, one which received a Daily Literary Deviation, and lots of faves and comments. The other one, the more recent one has not received as much credit but I believe it is also a good piece and I hope you will think the same. The thumbs to my texts are here:

Winners and LosersWell, you know what?
I'm not going to tell myself I failed, and I'm not going to tell myself I lost - because I didn't. Sure, I may have finished last, but at least I tried, and that matters.  Because most people in this world are too afraid to even try. I'm glad to have found the courage in myself to take part in something so big.  I'm proud, even though everything went wrong and nothing as I wished it to go, to be able to say I was there, competing against the best - showing people the best of my ability. And I believe that no matter what the final outcome was, I have won a very meaningful victory within myself. I pushed myself to compete against the best, to do something which was so scary at first; I gave it my all, and now, I leave this place with my head up high. I am not going to weep because I couldn't go as far as I wanted to today, but instead, I'll celebrate how far I have come over the years.
We must always remember - the greatest rewards in li
A Life Worth LivingOnce upon a time, there was a boy. He had been born into a corrupt, wicked world, a world in which anger, pain and worst of all, hate, took hostage the heart of every individual, including those who claimed to be good. The world consisted of two types of people: the good at war with evil, and the evil fighting endlessly against the good, refusing to forfeit. The world in itself was confused – how was the boy supposed to even start to comprehend all the jealousy, the rage, or the discrimination of not only the strangers around him, but of his very own friends and himself? This boy was just another victim, but he felt like he was the only one. He never understood the people around him. The people didn't understand him, either.
One thing that was noteworthy of this kid was the way he handled things – or so he was told. The young man went through so much in the little amount of time he had been around: his parents fought, his friends left year after year, and at times he was left

I hope you enjoy.

To close off, I want to share a wonderful quote I came across recently. Not so relevant to anything I have said in this post so far, but I wanted to share this quote with you all.

Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swaps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists...it is real...it is possible...it's yours.

Take care,
Daniel

Summer...

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 11, 2010, 5:36 AM

Hey guys,
I haven't posted a journal since the 25th of March - Wow. I used to be such a dA addict, haha, and now I'm barely on. Well, again there's lots to say. I like posting journals here because this is one of the only places I feel like I can open up and people will actually care enough to read it, comment on it etc. Yesterday was my last day of school... Normally I am always so happy when school ends and summer holidays begin. This time, it's a little bit different. I have mixed feelings within...Why? Well...I go to an international school here in my city in Turkey, but I am one of the only students in the school who is actually living here permanently. Everyone else, they come, stay a few years, then leave. I've been in this school for 6 full school years now. I've met some amazing people along the way, and made some great friends. Best friends. But eventually, everyone leaves, sooner or later. It's only me who remains. Normally, at the end of each year its one or two of my good friends who leave. Unfortunately this year is the worst so far, perhaps. Six of my very close friends graduated yesterday, all at once. It's so sad to see people leave, but when it's more than one or two, it's almost unbearable. I'm not good with goodbyes, and I'm not good at handling the thought that I will never see most of these people ever again in my life. I am going to miss everyone, all the good times we had together, everything is fading away. The only consellation right now, is that three or four of my better friends are still staying for at least 1 more year. The six of my friends who are leaving graduated yesterday, and we had great fun. We went out for a lunch today, and I had to say goodbye to some of them forever. It's sad, but there's nothing I can do, and that's what sucks.

Anyways, enough ranting - Summer is here people! I'm now officially on holiday, so I'm really happy about that. The great thing is, I already have goals for the summer and I'm confident I will make them happen. I have been inactive on dA for ages, and haven't been taking many photos lately. Summer is the time when I am aiming to go back to one of my favourite hobbies - photography. I want to take some great photos this summer and share them with the world. I want to improve my photography skills. Also, I will be taking part in Windsurfing Championships here in Turkey. My first race is next Friday, so wish me luck! I'm already quite nervous about it. It's my first time taking part in such an event, a competition at such a high level...I hope I'll do well. Other than that, I just want to have a great summer, chill with friends, enjoy the sun, take a break from school and all the work and everything else that's going on. Well? What are your goals for summer? I hope SUMMER 2010 will be a great one for all of us! All the best to everyone!

Life

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 25, 2010, 11:03 AM

Hey guys,

It's been ages since I posted a journal update. Man, I miss this place. I miss dA. I miss photography. Truth is I've been busy - and partially lost inspiration / motivation, too. See, I've been telling myself it's the school work which has been keeping me away from here, away from my art, away from creativity. But is it? I'm not sure. Although due to the upcoming exams, I have less time to spend taking photos, I feel I've come to a halt. I lost my inspiration I think. I used to be inspired by the simplest aspects of life, of nature, and I thought almost anything could look beautiful in a photo. I put this to test, and I believe I succeeded to an extent at least. But now, it seems to have changed. I don't see it any more. The simple yet beautiful things in this life...they've diminished, disappeared for me. I don't know why. Am I being pessimistic? Sorry. That must just be the mood I'm in. I don't know what I'm getting at here. Just pouring my heart out I guess. There is some good news though. Perhaps I can get my inspiration and my motivation back. I'm going to London this saturday to spend time with my sister for the easter holidays! So hopefully, I'll get back my hobby, my passion, photography. I want to take great photos, improve, and show my art to you all, and hope that you'll like it, too. Fingers crossed.

On the other hand, I have found something else recently. I'm addicted. The addiction is to One Tree Hill. I had heard of this show but never really was interested to see what it was all about. My best friend told me about this show, and because we know each other well, I trusted him and gave it a shot. Man, am I glad I listened to my bro. One Tree Hill is amazing. People may make fun of me or joke around with me because I watch it (and yes, I admit, it is kinda girly) - but I don't care. Me and my bro love this show and I'll tell you why. It has made me appreciate my life. There's so many inspirational quotes, things that make me happy, things that make me sad in this show. It made me realise how tough life can get. It's perfect, because in the last few years I had some things that made me feel really unhappy, depressed, but after watching this show, I was reminded that there are people with much bigger issues, and that I should be happy and make the most of my time on this planet. One Tree Hill is a great show which not only makes me smile but helps me be happy and appreciate the beauty of life rather than focus on the negative sides - I recommend everyone to give it a shot.

I want to close by sharing one very nice quote from One Tree Hill which I think may inspire you all:

Learn to let go of the past, and recognize that every day won't be sunny. When you find yourself lost in the darkness of despair, remember, it's only in the black of night that you can see the stars, and those stars will always lead you back home...

Hey guys,

I haven't really been on dA for a while, and I wanted to let you know, I won't be doing much for the next few weeks or so...I am preparing for loads of GCSE exams which I'll have to sit soon, and I am getting loads and loads of work from school. So much that I don't even time to spend on one of my favourite hobbies, photography. I will not be doing weekly features for a while, either. If I don't reply to your comments, notes, etc, please be aware that this is because I am not going to be active for a while. I love you all, and want you to know I could not have come here without your support. So, take care, and hopefully I'll see you soon!

'Nature At It's Best' Calendar in Progress - Help!

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 12, 2010, 12:43 PM

Hey guys!

So after my recent poll results, seeing that many people were interested in a calendar I might make, I was excited and I began to work on my front cover and deciding which photos will be in the calendar.

I've made almost all of the choices and the front cover is almost completed. But there are a few things I am stuck on, or unsure about, and I would love your help. And if you can help me, I would like to help you by featuring 3 of your best works in my next journal!

So, my questions are:

- Do you like the title of the calendar which will be displayed on the front page, 'Nature At It's Best'? If not, what do you recommend?

- Do you like the idea that the calendar is based around a general theme of NATURE?

- What color should the front & back cover's backgrounds be? I've chosen a dark shade of green, do you think that will work, or do you have other suggestions?

- I need to decide on two photos for February and November. Do you have any recommendations? Are there any photos in particular that you would like to see throughout the calendar. If so, which ones, and why?

I will feature anyone who offers any answer to any of my questions, anyone who is genuinely interested and tries to help. I won't be picky and say 'your ideas weren't helpful, you're not going to be featured'. As long as you are suggesting something sensible, or trying to help, I will feature 3 of your works next monday. Thank you!
